Miners’ Day

On the occasion of Miners’ Day, jubilee awards were awarded at a special award ceremony for 10, 20, 30 and 40 years of work, awards for the three best miners and the award „Dr Bosiljka Bosa Jovanović“ for the best female employee. A total of 45 workers were presented with awards. For 10 jubilee years of work 38 workers were awarded, for 20 years five workers were awarded, for 30 years one worker was awarded, and for 40 years one worker was awarded.
In honor of Miners’ Day, an exhibition titled “Rudarke” (Women Miners) was organized in the ”Vojislav Ilić“ community centre in Rudnik, a series of documentary photographs of women employed in Serbian mines, authored by photographer Marija Đoković. Women are employed in mines as engineers, geologists, overseers… Similarly to their male colleagues, women are employed in all areas within mines, but do not take part in hard physical labour. The photographs were taken in the mine on the Rudnik mountain, in proximity to Gornji Milanovac, in Bor, in Senjski mine and in Resavica. The documentary photography series “Rudarke” earned a “Best Edit” award for the Serbian edition of the National Geographic Magazine as the best reportage among 40 editions of the National Geographic in the world. The exhibition will be open until the 16th of August.
